Perfect Nine Events provides a mobile 9-hole mini golf course, serving corporate events, private events, weddings, and other gatherings throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

We are looking for a reliable, practical, and professional Event Operations Lead who can transport, set up, operate, and break down our portable mini golf course, sometimes running events alone, sometimes with the business owner, and sometimes with another part time staff member. This is a W-2 employee position.

This is not a traditional part-time job with a regular weekly schedule. We typically need help for a few event days per month. Some bookings are scheduled well in advance, while others may come in with only a few days' notice. Shifts are made available for you as bookings come in, and you can decline a shift if you are unavailable, but once you accept an event shift, reliability is extremely important to us.

This position is ideal for someone who already has a flexible primary job, shift-based schedule, freelance work, school schedule, or other situation that leaves them available for a flexible schedule with Perfect Nine. We're busier on Fri/Sat/Sun, but do get midweek bookings too.

What You'll Do

A typical event day may include the following:

  • Report to work in Berkeley and pick up a company vehicle and trailer, and tow the trailer to the event site. We serve a 150 mile radius, but most events at the moment tend to be less than an hour driving each way.

  • Unload, load, and move around mobile mini golf equipment on your own or with another person. Wheeled carts weigh several hundred pounds loaded, and many individual components weigh 30-50 lbs each.

  • Set up the mini golf course according to established standards. Setup is very physical work, and at many venues, can be completed in under an hour. Often there is down time between setup and the event starting, which can be a great time to take a break.

  • Communicate professionally with event planners, venue staff, clients, and guests.

  • Make practical adjustments when venue layouts or conditions differ from the original plan, making judgement calls and figuring out challenging or unexpected logistics as you go.

  • During events, perform the role of attendant by welcoming in guests, keeping the area neat, and exhibiting a high degree of professionalism and customer service. Hand out equipment to guests (like putters, scorecards, etc), and answer questions or hand out business cards when appropriate, reading the room

  • Break down equipment, securing it in the trailer to then drive back to Berkeley.

  • Identify and communicate equipment problems, missing items, damage, or other issues proactively.

  • After initial training, run events independently without the owner present

Who We're Looking For

The right person is someone who is dependable, hands-on, and capable of figuring things out independently.

This is a fun job, and while setup can sometimes be rushed, overall, it's not a hard job. Sometimes it gets boring during a longer event while you're waiting around with not much to do.

You should be comfortable walking into an unfamiliar venue, introducing yourself to the event contact, assessing the setup area, and getting the job done professionally without needing constant supervision.

Strong candidates may have experience in areas such as:

  • Event production or event rentals

  • EMS, public safety, or other shift-based work with a high degree of personal accountability and long hours.

  • Facilities or maintenance

  • AV/staging

  • Delivery or installation

  • Hospitality

  • Trades or other hands-on work

  • Logistics or operations

Specific event experience is not required if you have strong practical judgment, reliability, and the ability to learn the operation.

Requirements

  • Extremely dependable once you commit to a shift

  • Professional and comfortable interacting with corporate and private-event clients

  • Able to work independently and solve routine problems without constant direction

  • Comfortable performing physical setup, teardown, loading, and unloading

  • Valid driver's license and safe driving history

  • Comfortable driving larger vehicles and/or learning to tow an enclosed trailer

  • Able to work occasional long event days, including some 8–12+ hour shifts

  • Available for at least some weekdays, evenings, and weekends

  • Reliable transportation to Berkeley when reporting for work.

  • Comfortable with an irregular schedule and no guaranteed minimum number of hours

Schedule

This is an on-call position and the number of shifts depend on our bookings. For the right candidate, the owner is open to discussing offering a minimum guaranteed number of hours per month.

Shifts may include weekdays, weekends, mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Some shifts may be relatively short setup or breakdown jobs, while full event days can be substantially longer.

Upcoming potential event dates currently include:

August 26, August 28, August 29, September 8, September 12, September 13, September 16, September 20, and September 26.

Availability for all of these dates is not required, but availability for several would be helpful, and ideally, we'd like to hire a candidate as soon as possible to have them work 2 or 3 out of the August dates listed.

Compensation

We are targeting $30/hour, with overtime paid after 8 hours, and double time paid after 12 hours. Some events will be shorter, and some may be longer, or even involve optional overnight stays if the event ends late and the drive home is long, in which case a hotel room will be provided.

Why This Job Is Different

This could be a great fit if you want occasional well-paid side work without committing to another regular weekly schedule. There is opportunity for growth and for more hours, especially after winter as 2027 booking volume is expected to be high.

We're less concerned with whether you're available every time we call and much more concerned with whether, once you say yes, we can completely rely on you to show up and handle the event professionally.

As you learn the operation, the goal is for you to become someone who can independently take responsibility for an entire Perfect Nine event from pickup through return.
